From policy summits to sutainable campaigns, B Lab’s impact on politics, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability in 2024. 

On June 2, 2025, B Lab released its 2024 Global Annual Report. The report explores B Lab’s impacts, accomplishments, and projections for the new year. The latest annual report also notes a deeper commitment to community empowerment. B Lab recorded a 16.36% increase in B Corps certifications from its last annual report, but that’s not even the most riveting part. 

The anticipated B Corp standards launched on April 8, 2025, signaling a new era in assessing business performance. The new framework measures business impact across seven key areas: stakeholder governance, fair work, JEDI, climate action, human rights, environmental stewardship and circularity, and collective economic action. 

Here are some of the biggest takeaways from B Lab’s 2024 Annual Report:

The New B Corp Standards Expand Business Obligation

  • B Lab clarified what ‘good’ meant in business through its expanded impact framework. The seven key impact areas provide a detailed blueprint for B Corps.  
  • Eighty-six percent of respondents agreed that the new standards set high expectations for social, environmental, and governance performance. 84% of respondents noted that the standards clarified the requirements for certification (an  11% increase from 2022), and 71% observed that the new standards aligned with their company goals. 
  • The second public consultation launched in January 2024 received 16,637 pieces of feedback from over 1,000 stakeholders in 55 countries. 
  • The B Lab’s Standard Advisory Council approved the final version in December 2024, strengthening B Lab’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

More Businesses are Seeking B Corp Certifications 

  • The growth of this year’s global B Corp Movement is remarkable. 1,317 new businesses joined the list (up 16% from 2023), bringing the total to 9,368 certified B Corps. 
  • B Lab’s employee network continues to expand. In 2024, B Lab reached a total of  917,090 employees globally—a 28% increase from 2023. 
  • 319,148 businesses use B Lab’s tools and programs to assess their social and environmental impact and 40,000 use them to manage and improve their SDG actions. 
  • B Lab now has 51 jurisdictions with Benefit Corporation laws and has certified 75 publicly traded companies, the majority of which are in the food, beverages, and apparel industries. 

All Wins Matter: Our Year In Milestones

  • January: We launched the second public consultation to improve the B Corp certification standards
  • February: We hosted the B Corp Assembly in Australia and Aotearoa, New Zealand.
  • March: We celebrated B Corp Month and launched the B Market Builder Japan
  • April: B Lab Benelux celebrated Earth Month by launching the Onboarding Nature Toolkit
  • May: We drafted our first-ever Global Network Strategy Narrative and hosted the APAC Champions Retreat in Taipei
  • June: B Lab launched the #VoteAnyway campaign to encourage members to turn up for the EU election
  • July: B Lab Spain continued the Green Paper campaign to legalize stakeholder governance
  • September: B Lab Africa hosted its annual summit and Travalyst formally recognized the new standards.
  • October: We held an inaugural B Corp Investor Retreat in Singapore
  • November: B Corps attended the G20 summit in Brazil to promote the Benefit Corporation Model and Impact Assessment tool
  • December: B Lab’s Standards Advisory Council approved the new standards

Awareness Fuels Action: B Lab’s Popularity Is On The Rise

B Lab’s 2024 report also saw the release of its first-ever global brand awareness report. The survey highlighted the following

  • 25% of people globally have heard about B Corps. The UK has the highest B Corp awareness rate (35%)
  • Younger consumers, under 40 years old, easily recognize a B Corp brand
  • Awareness in Europe rose to 24% in 2024, indicating a 9% growth
  • B Corp certifications influence the purchasing decisions of 85% of aware consumers in the US

Driving Change One Policy At A Time 

In the United States:

  • In December, B Corps celebrated New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act which will generate $75 billion over 25 years from fossil fuel companies. The success has inspired a similar legislation in California for 2025.

In Spain:

  • B Lab Spain continued to advocate for the SBIC model, building on the 30,000 petition signatures, support from 50+ leaders, and success with the 2022 Create and Grow Law.

In the European Union:

  • B Lab Europe joined the Business for a Better Tomorrow coalition to urge policymakers to expand the Green Deal, promote fair competition for impact businesses, and enact new legal frameworks for stakeholder governance.

B Lab is Raising The Bar in Climate Protection 

  • B Lab has launched over 50 climate-focused standards.
  • 800+ B Corps have joined the SME Climate Hub to work towards Net Zero 
  • 273 B Corps have adopted the Science Based Targets (SBTi) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • B Corps are 3.1x more likely to track KPIs on social and environmental issues and 2.7x more likely to use environmentally friendly packaging
  • Onboarding Nature Toolkit encourages companies to embrace nature-inclusive governance
  • At COP16 in Colombia, B Corps were applauded for embedding biodiversity practices.

B Corps Are Leading The Way in Job Quality & Inclusion

  • B Lab standards impact 42 million+ workers globally. B Corp employees include those who typically face high entry barriers.
  • B Lab initiated the launch of the Good Jobs Campaign by partnering with the Urban Institute’s WorkRise initiative and developing Season 3 of the Forces for Good podcast with the Gates Foundation. 
  • Research shows B Corps are 51% more likely to offer quality health insurance and 25% more likely to solicit employee input.
  • B Lab’s latest strategy seeks to improve job quality across the movement
  • B Corps are 4.5x more likely to sponsor supplier diversity programs, 2.6x more likely to hold managers accountable for aligning the brand mission, 2.8x more likely to publish impact reports, and 1.8x more likely to offer employees stock options and fair compensation.

Shaping Culture With Community-Led Stories

  • In 2024, four community-building events were held in Europe, Australia, and Africa. These events engaged 3,000+ participants across 40+ countries using 850+ speakers, including:

Preliminary Financial Report

  • In 2024, 90% of B Lab revenue came from programs, 9% from philanthropy, and 1% from alternative sources. 83% of B Lab’s expenses went to direct program services, 14% covered management and administrative costs, and 3% were used for fundraising

B Lab In The Future: Projections for 2025 & 2026

The mission remains the same: to build a movement of businesses that reshape the global economy for good. In the coming year, B Labs plans to help more brands transition to the new standards of conduct, particularly in Climate Action and Fair Work. Through the Good Jobs Campaign, B Lab will continue to mobilize more businesses to prioritize their workers’ well-being. 

More climate-focused upskilling programs will be launched. 2025 will also see greater demand for collective presence at global convenings such as ChangeNOW, New York Climate Week, COP30, and Econtro+B. In 2026, the emphasis will be on urging B Corp leaders to join in shaping policies, shifting norms, and more. 

Spotlight on B Lab U.S. & Canada: Notable Mentions

  • In the United States, top-rated magazines, including The New York Times and National Geographic, wrote features about B Lab. 
  • 25% of globally certified B Corps are in the United States and Canada. The United States also has the highest number of B Corp employees (133,949)
  • B Lab U.S. and Canada also have the highest B Impact Assessment users (84,156)
  • 85% of U.S. consumers aware of B Corp certifications reported that it influences their buying decisions. 
  • The United States is also leading the charge in climate accountability with the Climate Change Superfund Act. 
  • British Columbia, Canada, hosted the B Lab U.S. & Canada Champions Retreat 2024
  • B Lab U.S. & Canada is also leading the multi-year Good Jobs Campaign through partnerships with the Urban Institute and the Gates Foundation. 

In 2025, more B Corps in the U.S. and Canada are committing to realizing B Lab’s vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system through intentional collaborations and community engagement.
