Alter Eco: A Circular Approach to Chocolate

“From the beginning, Alter Eco has stood on three core principles – Restoring Ecosystems, Improving Livelihoods and Reducing Waste. As a certified B-Corp company, we prioritize our commitment to these fundamental principles in every decision we make. (Keith Beardan, CEO)”

Guide

Alter Eco has been a Certified B Corporation since 2009. As a small food company in the retail/wholesale sector, they have been successful in incorporating circularity in creative ways. They were an early leader in implementing compostable packaging and have continued to innovate, always seeking to offer their customers world-class chocolate and granola while also operating as sustainably as possible.

They see circularity as core to their business, not just in relation to products and packaging, but also to building a regenerative ecosystem that supports communities and minimizes risk to the ecosystem. Overall, this case seeks to showcase one example of a small company that is finding creative ways to set and achieve circularity targets and continue to improve.
