EoS FAQs for Recerts

B Corps with Recertification Dates in 2025 and 2026 will receive a 12-month extension to submit for review on the new standards. Please review this Knowledge Base article for the full policy: Guidance for all B Corps due to recertify in 2025/2026. If you know your B Corp’s Recertification Date, you can use the Recertification Pathway Tool to learn more about your B Corp’s specific Recertification Pathway.

B Corps with Recertification Dates in 2027 or beyond will not receive an extension and will be expected to submit for review by their posted Recertification Date.

B Lab is retiring the Submission Date, meaning B Corps will only be expected to submit for review by their Recertification Date. To be clear, you will not be required to submit early, but B Lab U.S. and Canada is encouraging our community to be proactive and plan to submit two months before your stated Recertification Date. This will help ensure that you and your team have ample time to address any “hiccups” you may encounter as you work to meet the requirements of the new standards. Submitting two months early is not a requirement, just a suggestion.

You do not need to submit an assessment for review by June 30th, 2025, unless your Recertification Date is before June 30th, 2025. If your Recertification Date is before June 30th, 2025, your company will be expected to submit an assessment and recertify on the current version of the standards (“Version 6”) on your normal recertification timelines.

B Corps with Recertification Dates between July 1st, 2025, and June 30th, 2026, can opt in to recertify on the current version of the standards (“Version 6”). Your company’s B Impact Assessment must be submitted by June 30th, 2025. This date is a hard deadline, and we cannot make any exceptions or allow any extensions to this deadline. If your company misses the June 30th deadline, you will recertify on the new standards. Similar to the above, your company will receive a 12-month extension on your Recertification Date, listed above.

B Lab recommends that all businesses that operate within the EU and engage in business-to-consumer (B2C) communications should start self-assessing against our new standards and start identifying and working towards meeting the standards, to ensure readiness for when such a pathway becomes available.

We recommend that businesses operating within the EU and engaging in business-to-consumer (B2C) communications consult their legal advisors regarding how they will communicate their B Corp status after September 2026.

As of the writing of this email (May 2025), it is not currently possible to recertify on the new standards. B Lab is putting the finishing touches on the “assurance model”, the system by which B Corps will be verified to meet the new standards. Details about this new assurance model have not been shared, and we anticipate that additional information on the recertification process will be available by early 2026. B Lab intends to prioritize reviews for companies that will be affected by ECGT (see above).

Any extensions or early recertification timelines communicated by B Lab staff are still applicable and consistent with this policy. Also, please note that B Lab staff is unable to change the Recertification Date as it appears in our tech systems. Accordingly, you may notice that the Recertification Date listed at the top of this email is inconsistent with the extension or early recertification date communicated by B Lab staff. Please rest assured that we have your extension/early recertification listed and recorded in a separate system.

If your updated Recertification Date is in 2025 or 2026, you will also receive the same 12-month extension described above to meet the requirements of the new standards.
