Community = Resilience: 4 Ways to Connect and Support in the B Corp Community

Deepening and Building Community Amid Change and Challenge

Creating pathways for more connection and open lines of communication are simple yet powerful ways impact business leaders can support each other through turbulence. As a community of purpose-driven businesses, Certified B Corporations can together find strength and solidarity amid challenges and change.

From attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs to rollbacks of environmental and social funding, the rapidly shifting political environment can overwhelm and dismay. But that’s when it can be most important to lean into the value and strength of local support networks and aligned communities. Together with others who share a broader view of success that includes benefits for all, B Corps can move forward with purpose, empathy, and resilience.

B The Change gathered examples of ways that B Corps are nurturing and deepening community relationships, working together to build resilience and continue the journey for continual impact improvement. Below, find ideas to inspire from the B Hive platform for B Corps, social media posts, and more.

Share your strategies, hopes, or advice on how we can find strength together as we move forward on B Lab U.S. & Canada’s LinkedIn post.

Share resources openly and proactively.

Whether they are exploring an innovative business practice or facing a new regulation, B Corps are turning to one another for ideas, learnings, and support. A few recent examples of this in practice:

In the face of potential tariffs from the United States, Canadian B Corp leader and Founder of Profit Reimagined Christina Sjahli reinforced the change as an opportunity for businesses and partners to unite in the face of potential impacts. In a LinkedIn post, she shared some resources from organizations that can help, including Export Development Canada, as well as articles and lists of Canadian brands and founders to support. Canadian B Corp bank BDC also is providing resources to support businesses in the face of trade uncertainty.

A B Hive query on how B Corps can use their values and voices to step up now drew responses from community members, including Michelle Hirons of B Corp HigherRing. Her suggestions included joining aligned coalitions with informational resources and next steps for advocacy,  such as Indivisible and America Is All In. “We can continue to ensure that our spend as businesses (and personal) is aligned with our values,” Hirons said. “We are working on moving our clients as much as possible to non-extractive and damaging systems,” including providers of services such as bookkeeping, banking, and investing

In a rapidly changing policy environment, some companies and institutions across sectors are rolling back their DEI commitments or removing or changing language. B Corps and other businesses considering how these shifts may affect their DEI efforts can turn to resources and collaboration shared on the B Hive including:

Directly engage with the B Corp community.

Through formal networks and informal connections, B Corps are turning to new and existing relationships for support and solidarity. Connecting with other purpose-driven business leaders can be a powerful way to address challenges and amplify impact.

B Networks offer online opportunities for peer learning, resource creation, and best practice sharing. These self-organized groups align around impact, industry, role, region, or identity. Search the online listing of B Networks and connect with specific groups on the B Hive to learn more. Here’s a look at a few upcoming B Network gatherings:

As Jenn T. Grace of B Corp Publish Your Purpose writes on B The Change, B Corp connections can be especially powerful when they happen in person. “As we move forward, the leaders who make the biggest impact won’t just be the ones with the largest followings online. They’ll be the ones who show up. The ones who create spaces for real dialogue. The ones who understand that community isn’t built through algorithms but through intentional connection.”

B Corps can nurture intentional connections regionally through place-based B Local communities. These offerings include timely opportunities to learn and network and programs for policy advocacy and other collective action

Host a conversation or event in person or online.

Webinars, in-person meetings, and other events offer timely and impactful forums for shared learnings and action. The Community Newsletter from B Lab U.S. & Canada and the B Hive Events section are good sources for upcoming opportunities to connect.

One example of an upcoming event shared with the B Corp community: an April gathering led by WeTheChange, the network for B Corp leaders who identify as women. The “Recharge and Rise” retreat theme was recently updated to reflect the current needs and challenges of B Corp business leaders and provide structured networking as well as actionable knowledge.

Planned session topics include strategic viability and pivots, new partnerships and business models, having hard conversations with heart, and funding for the future.
